Foxfire Logging Camp Preview
Ever wonder how people survived before the days of computers, cars, and even electricity? Well, at Cuyuna Scout Camp there will be a great way to find out in our "Foxfire Logging Camp". Here you can work on your handicraft merit badges such as: metalwork, basketry, woodcarving, leatherwork, Indian lore, and so much more. Throw tomahawks and fire black powder rifles-see who is the best shot; learn the art of story-telling and string a few "yarns"; make lye soap and candles too. We even have a forge so you can learn about blacksmithing and get the chance to brand your boots. Experience the life of a lumberjack in our great north woods.

S.P.L's Corner
Senior Patrol Leaders, are you ready for Cuyuna 2008? Remember, you are the leader of the troop. The Scoutmaster and other adults are there to advise you, but you are in charge. It's never too early to start planning!
This year camp will be offering many new exciting programs and activities that are definitely going to add to everyone's "Cuyuna experience". You'll see what we mean as you read the rest of the articles about camp. We want to make sure each troop is as informed as possible. Part of our hope is that you will help us to make that possible. As your troop's Senior Patrol Leader, we're asking you to take an active role in making sure the scouts in your troop know what's going on.
We also suggest you will be able to attend the summer camp orientation which will be offered at a location convenient for you. We suggest you bring your Scoutmaster along as a guest. So, get ready for Cuyuna! It's going to be the place where "Scouting comes alive."
In the Way of Baden-Powell
Baden-Powell wanted scouts to have fun being organized in a patrol, the central unit of scouting. From the patrol should come the spirit, activity, and fun that scouting is known for. At Cuyuna Scout Camp the 'patrol method' is central. Boys live, eat, and sleep by patrol. There are opportunities for activities by patrol. Cuyuna has its own "Baden-Powel Patrol Award" for the ambitious patrol. It is a great program and a way to get your patrols together.

Camperships
Limited financial help is available for Twin Valley Council Troops on an individual basis for scouts who could not otherwise go to camp due to financial hardships.
If you know of some scout in your troop, please contact the Center for Scouting for a campership application. These forms are to be filled out and approved by the unit leader and submitted to the Service Center for review BEFORE your troop attends camp.
No scout will be denied the opportunity to attend any of the council's summer camp programs due to financial need.

Adults Too!
Hopefully, your Senior Patrol Leader has things under control and the adults are looking for things to do. Well, at Cuyuna that should be no problem. We have programs for the most "mature" of scouts too. Besides the daily scoutmaster's coffee, there will be opportunities for adults to pick up skills in our program areas.
If you are skilled in a particular area, you could assist the staff and help out in that area. There will also be numerous training opportunities specially for adults. If you just want to relax, bring a lawn chair and kick back.
